5 Easy Ways to Add Prunes to Your Plate… And Why You Should
If you turn on the news, look at your social media feed, or even discuss nutrition with friends, the messages on what to eat or avoid for a healthier life can be overwhelming. Some recommendations can be unsustainable or even unhealthy. But I have good news for you. Improving your health doesn’t have to be complicated and you don’t have to remove many of the foods you love from your diet. Instead, by focusing on what you should be adding to your diet you can simplify your wellness efforts and feel good from the inside out. That’s why I have partnered with Sunsweet for the #IEatRightBecause campaign to highlight just how easy it can be to improve your diet with a few simple steps. My goal for 2018: To focus on boosting my fiber intake every day. #IEatRightBecause I want to feel good from the inside out & have enough energy to keep up with my two boys. And now that the baby is walking (and climbing on everything) I really need that extra energy boost!
When it comes to improving my nutrition, I choose to focus on what I should eat more of rather than what I need to avoid. And my number one goal each day is to eat more fiber from whole foods. A high fiber diet has been shown to improve body weight, reduce hunger and cravings, and even reduce the risk of heart disease and certain cancers. Eating between 25 to 35 grams of fiber per day is ideal, yet most of us don’t even get half of that. One of the ways I boost my fiber each day is by making sure to include 5 to 6 prunes into my meal plan.
Why prunes? Well for one, they are delicious and convenient, but the benefit of eating these wrinkly little guys doesn’t stop there. Sunsweet Amaz!n Prunes are known as ‘The Feel Good Fruit’ for a reason –adding prunes each day can balance and maintain good digestive health and promote healthy bones. Research suggests that eating 5-6 prunes each day may help to prevent bone loss. What’s not to love?
Now if you are thinking eating five to six prunes each day may be hard to incorporate, I have great news. Thanks to their versatility, it can be incredibly easy to incorporate prunes into every meal and snack throughout the day. You can enjoy Sunsweet Amaz!n Prunes right out of the bag as an on-the-go snack option or add them to your favorite recipes and dishes. To help you get started, I am highlighting a few of my favorite ways to get in my 5 to 6 per day.
