The Best Low Carb Drinks at Dunkin Donuts

When you’re out and about and the caffeine craving kicks in, you may find yourself wanting to grab a coffee at Dunkin Donuts. But with many of their drinks containing large amounts of added sugar, it can be hard to know what to order without spiking blood sugar levels. But don’t worry, I’m here to help!

Dunkin Donuts Low Carb Drink And Donut

This blog will walk you through your options for the best low carb drinks at Dunkin Donuts.

Dunkin Donuts drinks with less than 10 grams of carbs

Brewed coffee, espresso, & cold brew

You can never go wrong with a coffee (iced or hot), espresso shot, or cold brew coffee. These are going to be the lowest carb coffee options because they don’t contain any milk, flavorings, or sweetener. And by lowest carb, I mean zero carb.

You can always add a sugar-free flavor shot to any of these to amp up the flavor, or sweeten it up with a little bit of your favorite sugar-free sweetener, like stevia or allulose

Adding a splash of your milk of choice or cream is also going to keep you under 10 grams of carbs.

Unsweetened hot or iced tea

Another zero carb option is hot or iced tea – be sure to ask for no sugar added.

Iced tea with lemon

There are a few options for teas at Dunkin, including:

  • Bold Breakfast Black Tea
  • Harmony Leaf Green Tea
  • Hibiscus Kiss Herbal Infusion
  • Chamomile Fields Herbal Infusion
  • Cool Mint Herbal Infusion

Feel free to add your favorite sugar-free sweetener, like monk fruit or erythritol, and/or a splash of milk or cream, if desired.

Cappuccino

A medium cappuccino with skim or whole milk will run you exactly 10 grams of carbs, and the small size has only 7 grams of carbs.

You can order one either hot or over ice, depending on your mood. If you want to spice it up, add one of the flavor shots or some of your favorite sugar-free sweetener for zero extra carbs.

Macchiato

A macchiato is traditionally espresso topped with steamed milk and foam. At Dunkin’ you get a layered beverage, with milk on the bottom and two shots of espresso on top.

A large macchiato with coconut milk runs you just 3 grams of carbs. If you like regular milk, you would have to order a hot macchiato with skim milk in a size small to stay under 10 grams of carbs. A small macchiato made with cow’s milk has 7 grams of carbs.

You can order a macchiato either hot or cold, and again, you can customize your drink when it comes to the flavor shots and sugar-free sweeteners.

Latte

While most of the latte options at Dunkin won’t be an option due to having over 10 grams of carbs, there are still some options when it comes to lattes.

You can get any size latte with coconut milk or a small with skim milk or whole milk and be under the 10 grams of carb limit.

Sources of carbs in Dunkin’ Donuts drinks

Milk and cream

A major source of carbs in the drinks at Dunkin’ Donuts is milk or cream.

Per 8 oz cup, here is the amount of carbs each milk option at Dunkin’ contains:

  • Cow’s milk = 12 grams
  • Coconut milk = 8 grams
  • Almond milk = 5 grams
  • Oat milk = 16 grams

Half and half has just 1 gram of carbs for every 2 tablespoons, and heavy cream has only 1 gram of carbs per tablespoon.

Flavor swirls and sweeteners

Flavor swirls are the sweetened flavoring options at Dunkin. Adding flavor swirls will also add 150 or more calories along with the increased carb count.

Dunkin carries more options for flavor swirls than they do for the unsweetened flavor shots, and most of the time their seasonal flavors are only available in their sweetened form. Be sure to ask your barista if you’re unsure if a flavor is sweetened or not.

How to customize your Dunkin’ drinks

Take any of the types of drinks mentioned above and add some sweetness from sugar-free sweetener packets and pick your flavor by choosing one (or more) of Dunkin’s sugar-free flavor shots.

Unsweetened Flavor Shots

One amazing thing about Dunkin’ Donuts is that they have so many options for sugar-free flavors for your coffees and teas.

Even better, Dunkin’ flavor shots add just the flavor and no sweetness to your drinks, so you’re still able to add your favorite sugar-free sweetener if you desire without risking your drink becoming too cloyingly sweet.

Dunkin’ Donuts sugar-free flavor shots include:

  • French vanilla
  • Hazelnut
  • Caramel
  • Toasted almond
  • Raspberry
  • Blueberry
  • Coconut

Additionally, these flavor shots only add an additional 5-10 calories to a medium drink. Your Dunkin’ location may have fewer or more options than this, so be sure to ask your barista what unsweetened flavor options they have.

Caffeine and blood sugar

Keep in mind that caffeine can increase the blood sugar of some people with diabetes, even without being high in carbs. If you need to watch your blood sugar, be sure to check your blood glucose levels after drinking coffee. If you still see unwanted increases in blood sugar, opt for decaf coffees or herbal teas.

The bottom line

Despite having many sugar-packed drinks, Dunkin’ can still be a great option for people on low carb or keto diets.

You can order off of the classic menu from the recommendations above, or you can add your own twist by adding sugar-free flavor shots.
