Adventures in Joeyhood

joey-gerber

Welcome to “Mommyhood Bites” and thank you for joining me. I am thrilled to make this first post on what I like to call my “hybrid blog”- one part mommy blog, one part food and nutrition, and some random thoughts thrown in. If you are confused by the name, I don’t think mommyhood actually bites in a bad sense (well sometimes, but not really), but instead I hope to share “bites” of wisdom, mistakes, funny stories, and any anything else I think you would enjoy and relate to. I hope you enjoy this blog as much as I enjoy putting it together and I look forward to your comments, advice, and words of wisdom.

First – a little introduction. My name is Erin and I am a new mom to a fun-loving, adventurous, never-sleeping little guy named Joey. Prior to my new life as “Joey’s mommy” which started almost 11 months ago, I was mostly known as a nutrition and fitness expert. Although I still work in my field, becoming a mother has put a new spin on the way I work (and tested my limits with just how much can actually be accomplished on virtual no sleep for months), as well as the way I think.

As someone who works on a regular basis with children and parents, as well as someone who has many friends and family members that are pediatricians, lactation consultants, etc, you would think becoming a new mom would be a piece of cake, right? Yea- me too! Boy was I surprised! I mean for one, I assumed newborns slept. I was counting on it since I was only partially on maternity leave. But nope, not my little guy. He’s the only newborn I know of that existed on no naps- ever! Between his tongue-tie, reflux, and inability to sleep, my struggle with breastfeeding and lack of sleep, and my husband’s struggle to be as supportive as possible as we both felt like we were losing our minds, the first two months or so were definitely harder than I thought they would be. But would I change anything- not at all!

We love our little Christmas miracle (Joey was born Christmas Eve night- after a long labor- did you know that babies can actually go backwards during labor? Seriously- I went from 7 centimeters to 5?! WTH!) more than anything and wouldn’t change a thing. I’m excited to share with you all of our fun adventures, our mistakes (many, many mistakes), and the joys and tribulations of becoming first time parents. I’m also excited to share tips I have learned as well as fun recipe ideas, time saving tips, and ways to get back in shape even when you have absolutely no time (don’t worry- I have discovered every way imaginable to workout while having your baby attached to you since my little guy never wants to let go 🙂 )

Welcome to “Mommyhood Bites” – I look forward to hearing from you!
